DS witnessed an assault

DS aged 17 witnessed an assault. The victim (his friend) has told his solicitor that DS will provide a witness statement. Please can someone let me know what might happen next. As DS is 17, would I or DH be allowed to sit in on any interviews? Thanks for any advice you can give.
