So you sent details in but you haven't asked them?

newtothis15 · 08/07/2023 20:03

I asked but they did not say

You don't say if there was any damage to your car?

SirChenjins · 08/07/2023 20:05

This makes no sense at all. Why wouldn’t they give you the details of this supposed accident when you asked them?

Scam probably. People tell their insurer that you hit their vehicle in the car park. Their vehicle will already have been damaged in some other incident and they blame you so your insurance ends up paying for it.

If your insurer contacts you again, tell them that neither you nor your vehicle were involved in the alleged incident, and that if there is any damage on your vehicle which corresponds with their vehicle, then it must have been caused by them driving into you.

That would be my guess too. They report 'damage' to their insurer and claim you were the culprit, perhaps parked next to them. I guess the insurers have a database that will tell them the insurer for any given VRN.

My car is very worn out and when i sent photo to my insurance they might see heavy use ( limes, scratches) but no dents

Sounds a bit dodgy. If you haven’t already, I would be making it absolutely clear to your insurance company that your car was stationary and you came back to the note. There is no fresh damage to your vehicle and you haven’t been involved in an accident. Basically that your insurance should dispute any claim against you. I hope you kept the note. Email a screenshot to your insurance company.

Was it definitely your insurance company who sent the letter? First thing I'd check by calling them in their published contact number, not any number from the letter. Secondly if it is definitely them I'd be making absolutely clear I wasn't involved in any accidents. I expect it's a scam of some kind.

Did anything come of this?
