This is my first post and was looking to see if anyone had any insight into the steps that will happen next in our situation.
My ex husband and I separated in 2016. My ex was abusive during our relationship, which is the reason for our divorce. However, I did not want my feelings towards him to stop him having a relationship with our son. He has had contact with our 10 year old to varying degrees since. Most recently he has been seeing our son on Sunday afternoons at my ex's request. They don't really get up to much during contact but our son does want to see his Dad. Ex has PR and no CAO is in place.
Yesterday I had a call from social services - they told me that my ex is currently on probation, although didn't inform me of the offence. I had no idea about this. The probation officer reported my ex due to concerns about his alcohol use/mental health and having access to our son, so I have agreed that social services can carry out a child and family assessment. I will stop contact between my ex and our son while this is being carried out.
I've not had any experience with this before so I was just wondering whether anyone can let me know what to expect from the assessment and what happens once it is completed. I hope that the assessment will have a positive effect for all of us and help will be offered to my ex to sort himself out so that he can be a good dad once contact can resume.
