Small claims court

I’m thinking about taking a company to small claims court, but I’m not sure if I can. I have asked them to do something I believe to be covered under the contract for free. They want to charge me £800 + to sort the issue. They say it’s nothing to do with them. Can I take them to small claims court to get them to sort out my issue for free or is this process only to recover money already paid out?

You can claim the cost of getting someone else to do the work. You only have to get quotes from other suppliers for this before going to court. You don't actually have to get the work done. Of course, your claim will only succeed if the court agrees that this work is covered by the contract.
