What website did you use for deedpoll

My ds is wanting to change his surname and take away his middle name. Different websites say different things and charge different amounts. What websites did you use and are they accepted by all organisations? I found one yesterday that seemed simple enough, promises they're accepted by all organisations. Cheap enough for copies etc and was all set to do it but read reviews before hand and there are mixed reviews so I'm put off abit now. Ds is turning 17 so it can only be the unrolled one as it says you need to be 18 for the enrolled one. I did look at solicitors fees aswell but they charge anywhere from £100+. Thanks

We didn't pay anything. We just pointed off a letter, had it signed by 2 witnesses and that was it. (2 teens and I all changed our names this way)

There are two ways of doing it - Enrolled or not-enrolled.

Enrolled you do through the government website and it costs £42 but it takes some time and you need a lot of paperwork. There is no need to do this.

Not-enrolled is easy, you can find the statement you need on the Internet for free. You can print it off and sign it with a witness.

The issue I had is that no one would accept the printed off version I did and I ended up paying a company to make me a fancy certificate.

The websites you are talking about ONLY make you a fancy certificate. They do not enroll it because you do not need to. Be very careful and read the small print.

Change your name by deed poll

A deed poll recognises a change of name of an adult or child - make your own, use official forms, or get one through a specialist agency or solicitor

Did mine unenrolled as a large part of the fee for enrolled is for an announcement in the London standard. Not everyone will accept them though, my credit card company won't. Cost me nothing.

My DD16 drew one up on a word document, printed it and had it signed by 2 (non family member) witnesses. We have used this to get a new passport, provisional driving licence and bank account.

Brilliant thankyou. The one I did find was ukdeedpollservice. It all looked OK and read some small print which states in small cases of the deedpoll not being accepted by an organisation, we can contact them and they cobtact the organisation. Until I read some reviews and I don't want him having problems getting his provisional or passports ect. This site says you fill it in online then they send it to you on paper and then he signs it. I did ring the bank and they said they only accept one off stamped paper not printed or handwritten. I know some banks will and some won't.

Ours was Nat west. We just went to the branch with the printed and signed word document and her birth certificate and they changed the account name over in a few minutes. They then sent new bank cards in the post with her new name on.

We applied for my daughters first adult passport with the deedpoll. We had to send proof that she used her new name, eg, exam certificates, payslip from part time job. It was a bit of a faff but not overly so. Once that was done, it was easy to sort the driving licence as they link together online.
