Parking penalty

I’ve got a parking penalty through for parking at a premier inn, well two to be exact as we stayed two nights. I did enter my reg on the machine inside but I have no proof of this as they don’t give a receipt. I’ve appealed with a copy of my premier inn booking but on googling it seems that is often turned down as a reason, what is my next step if appeal gets turned down. The advice I’ve seen all refers to getting pics of the notices in the car park but I’m not disputing the notices just the fact that the system hasn’t worked, I don’t think I put the reg in wrong but I couldn’t 100% say thst for sure and I have nothing to prove either way

You’d have paid, correct? So will be on bank statement

Cleoforever · 17/04/2023 07:27

The last premier inn I stayed at, I had to pay £8 per day for parking

No this particular premier inn is free parking you just have to enter reg details in a machine, they all vary as we’ve stayed at many but this one is def free

I would get premier inn involved. Their website clearly says free parking and you gave your details.

VanCleefArpels · 17/04/2023 07:42

Is the parking company a member of a trade body eg POPLA? If so there will be an additional level of appeal if this one fails. Go on citizens advice website and put “parking tickets” in the search bar on the home page for detailed info.

I’d also contact the manager of the hotel if you haven’t already re your putting in the reg number / proof of stay

IncredibleSulk · 17/04/2023 07:42

Have you contacted the hotel? When I have had similar issues in pubs/supermarkets I have dealt directly with them and they have arranged for the fine to be cancelled (parking eye in these instances).

This. Further down the link you've posted it says that car details need to be registered with reception.

ImSweetEnoughDarlin · 17/04/2023 07:45

I got a fine in travelodge once for not putting the permit they give in the window.

The find company said there were no mitigating circumstances but I sent them the booking receipt and a letter from money saving expert and didn't pay them and never heard from them again.

There is a difference between what a council can issue and what these companies send and they are private companies that can't actually force you to pay. If you look carefully at the wording, it's actually an invoice.

It should all be on MSE.

My dd did this, paid and put her reg in the machine.
She mistakenly put 0 instead of o, she appealed and got let off the fine.

KitKatLove · 17/04/2023 08:01

There must be a log somewhere of all the registrations input. Either the hotel or parking company can check the registrations input at the time you checked in. Sounds like you might have typed the incorrect reg by mistake or didn’t finish the input properly. I’d ask for them to check for details of similar registration numbers.

this is really bad advice - the “fine” is treated as a debt and will end up in the hands of debt collectors whose whole business model is to take these to court (plus their own expenses) and recipients will end up with CCJ against them.

Verite1 · 17/04/2023 10:43

I had similar with a different hotel. I contacted the hotel and they arranged for the fine to be cancelled.

OP please don't believe this post. They can and will force you to pay via the courts if necessary

GoodChat · 21/04/2023 08:42

Speak to the hotel. It's them offering free parking and, worst case, they'll have the CCTV of you at the machine in reception.

And above your post the OP said they’d done this 😊

LittleLlama · 21/04/2023 09:21

We had this happen with Premier Inn. We contacted them and they were great, sorted it out, no problem.

Morph22010 · 21/04/2023 09:25

@Morph22010 Hi glad you got it cancelled; how did you manage it, did you get the hotel involved?
