There is a train line near my house and it doesn’t have barriers as it’s a slow train, I was headed up to at at 30mph and the amber lights came on, instead of breaking hard as there are cars behind me also doing 30, I go through the amber lights, it may or may not have changed to red but it was absolutely on amber when I went….. am I looking at points and fine ?

court summons, if you are caught

enjoyingscience · 16/04/2023 18:38

No. That’s fine. Doesn’t matter if they went red after you’d passed the lights.

WhirlAndCleek · 16/04/2023 18:38

Is there a camera there?

TheRookie · 16/04/2023 18:41

Did everyone behind you stop?

I imagine you'll not have been caught as doubt there are cameras there?

GoodChat · 16/04/2023 18:43

You'll probably be fine but in future don't play chicken with trains.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 16/04/2023 18:47

Why the fuck would you take chances on a level crossing?? Amber = stop if you can. Not, crack on if you feel like it. Since you think the lights turned red whilst you were on it, you were clearly able to stop whilst it was amber.

Shoot4theMoon · 16/04/2023 18:50

It’s a slow metro train it stops at a station there and the lights change before the train starts to move off, if the train had of starting move it starts off slow as if a car moving off. Yes there are cameras there and no the car behind me also came through

Use the level crossing as though you have no clue what the system they use is - because they could change it at any time

DogInATent · 16/04/2023 19:02

If it was amber flashing then you're fine. An idiot, but fine.

ZeroPlastic · 16/04/2023 19:03

My MIL was sent on a “don’t drive across a level crossing when a train’s coming” awareness course, believe it or not, so you might get one of them.

cupofteaandabiccyplease · 16/04/2023 19:20

I hate rail crossings, where I used to live I waiting to cross as the barrier dropped. A young lad jumped over and was hit by a train in front of me before I could stop him.
Don't EVER take chances on rail crossings, just not worth it.

Bonbon21 · 16/04/2023 19:24

You should always be prepared to stop at a rail crossing... slowing down on approach. Other vehicles should not be tailgating... they should be dropping back in line.

ArcticSkewer · 16/04/2023 19:39

Is it a red light camera or a speed camera and did it flash?
Doubt anything will happen anyway tbh

gamerchick · 16/04/2023 19:40

I wouldn't take a chance and assume the lights won't malfunction at some point. Don't mess with trains.

jannier · 16/04/2023 20:19

You should always approach ready to stop why risk your life?

BexxFin · 09/04/2024 10:59

Hi! Just wondering, did anything come of this?
