Compulsory Secondments

What are the employees rights regarding hours/salary when being asked to go on secondment to a different establishment within the same employer?

This may be on the cards for me soon but my manager has said hours won't be guaranteed so there may be a drop in salary which I can't afford. He has also said he hasn't fully explored where these secondments may be and we could be asked to travel up to 30 miles for them which wouldn't be ideal for me and would obviously have a financial implication.

I'd also like to know what would usually happen with regards to interviews as these will presumably be roles that need filling rather than new roles so surely the managers of the "new" workplace will want to recruit in the normal way but I appreciate this may vary between industries.
