Im in need of some help re holidays and contact.

the background. My ex and I coparented fine until I moved in with my new partner. It’s since been non stop drama. In January we attended mediation and I thought we’d resolved our differences. I have every Tues overnight and we split the weekend with either Friday overnight or sat-mon am.

Amongst other things we agreed to a week each at Easter. My ex offered second week I agreed. She wants the week to be Sunday through Sunday - not ideal but again I agreed as trying to pick my battles…

So she has just messaged to say normal contact doesn’t apply and that she is having them from Friday through a week Sunday morning. I assumed usual contact would apply and I’d have Friday overnight as usual.

Before I respond, can anyone explain the normal for this kind of thing?

Hi - I would say it is usual for term-time (normal) contact patterns to be suspended in the holidays and replaced with whatever arrangement you've come to for holidays. So you are having the second week, and she is having the first week.

Usually term time contact and schedules are paused for holiday contact. Most court orders will specify this. I appreciate you don't have an order, but if you did it would likely have this clause.

I’m glad I asked. Would you suggest I should Ask for handover day to be Saturday for a more equitable split (going forward I appreciate Easter is fast approaching)

im pretty disappointed that I have to go nearly two weeks without seeing my children as I had assumed I’d still have my Friday!

Yes, Saturday handover seems fair.

Yes I agree.

Yes I'd ask for Saturday handover too

Thank you. I will do this.

And thank you to everyone who has taken time to reply.

I will chalk this to experience (see why she wanted Sunday at 6pm handover!) and make sure I push for something more equitable next time.
