Land Registry Security

Hello I recently read about some sort of registration you should undertake if you own your house in full ( no mortgage) re the Land Registry.

It works as a security measure and alerts you when something happens ( can't remember that detail ) . But it cropped up because someone's house was sold (!) by security fraudsters without them knowing.

I now fully own my house and I just wish I could remember what it was people were being advised to do via the Land Registry!
My fuzzy menopausal brain strikes again.

Any ideas what I am talking about clever people?

.

Look on line or ring the LR. You’ll find a local phone number on line probably. My local office is 45 miles away.

I think I remember registering my properties on line but I’ve also spoken to them face to face and on the phone.
In my experience the staff are very helpful.
Research, research and you shall find.

You are referring to the property alert service. You can sign up for it at HM Land Registry - Property Alert

https://propertyalert.landregistry.gov.uk/

Thanks for flagging that up.

I think you might be referring to an item on radio 4 on 'you and yours'. Its on bbc sounds. Reporter was Shari Vall (apologies for spelling). Very concerning report about 3 (?) victims who had their unmortgaged property sold from under them. It was frightening!

You don't need to actually own the property. I've used this service for my own house plus elderly parent's plus DH's vulnerable relative's house.

Thank you @prh47bridge

Accurate and helpful, as usual.
If MN gave gold stars, you would consistently be awarded one.

You can also have an anti-fraud restriction added
https://www.gov.uk/protect-land-property-from-fraud
It means that your identity has to be certified by a solicitor or conveyancer if your property is being mortgaged or sold.
