Proof of address

I currently own a house with my ex husband and it has been on the market since last July. Yesterday we had an offer that we accepted. All good.

However I have just contacted some Solicitors to check conveyancing fees and they require ID checks including proof of address. My ex has not lived in our property for over 4 years. He was living with another women in this time but she recently chucked him out too. Since then he decided to travel to Australia for 3 months and is therefore out of the country. He used our home address to renew his passport for this.
If they require proof of address to match this he has none. He doesn't have any bills in his name here. The only document he has is the mortgage statement. Is that going to be enough?

The best people to direct this question to are the solcitors doing the conveyancing.
