Please help: telegraph pole, we can't do anything within 5m, so no extension

Hi, I came home today and found a telegraph pole had been installed next to our house. There has been no consultation but I believe they don't have to as it's going to be for WiFi (we already have underground providers).

Where it has been installed is about 2m from our wall and about 17cm from the boundary. The company that have installed it have said we're not allowed to "dig" within 5m radius of it. This means we now can't extend out house to the side and if we need to replace our conservatory (which we will need to do sooner rather than later) we can't adjust the foundations so that we can change it to a proper extension. I suppose in theory it could mean even changing the fences or putting a tree in the garden.

I can't find any info on this or where this 5m has come from. I can find it for power lines but not communication lines.

Any info or advice would be much appreciated please.

What kind of wi-fi? There is guidance about telecommunication masts from Ofcom including a consultation process that has to be followed.

Thanks, it isn't a metal mast, I believe they are going at the bottom of the hill. It's an old style telegraph pole and they are going to hook wires upto it. This will eventually connect to the metal mast.

@Pusheengirl2023 it hasn't been. There is Facebook group called something like Residents against ix wireless which maybe worth a look for you.

Apparently they are allowed to put them up without planning permission using some legislation that was meant for remote areas without wifi access like; farms etc.

A group of North west LA'S are grouping together to try to get the legislation tightened but I doubt it'll change anything.

Some residents have managed to get them to move poles across streets or a few meters away for access reasons and there are a few that have been taken down but these are the accepting rather than the rule.
