Please help trampoline laws/rules?

Trampoline in garden.

Neighbours have been harassing is since we moved in, many different things (has been police involvement) but now trying to claim trampoline makes them uncomfortable as my child can see their garden/dining room (sincerely doubt she's looking at the dining room in the second she's bounced up). Threatening to sue us 'private nuisance and breach of privacy' if it's not respositioned.
I don't know what my rights are here?!
As far as I'm aware people are allowed trampolines in gardens?!
I'm also not sure if this letter is an empty threat or if they would do this?!
Can anyone please help

I have now moved it so it's now about 2 metres 10 cm from the boundary fence (not that our fence is actually in between anyway).

As opposed to 80cm.

I have no idea if I've done the right thing.
I know when I'm saying that I'm referring to the non-legal aspect so no one on here can comment on that cos no one knows the whole background.

As I've discovered with my neighbour some people just need conflict in their lives so they look for a means of generating it. I've realised whatever I do to appease perceived ' nuisances' they'll find another. Grey rock them and be as boring and minimally responsive as possible.

itsnotgreatisit · 17/02/2023 13:37

I think you've done the right thing just to keep the peace. Now ignore them.
Any more issues you could call their bluff and insist that they complain to the council.

We had neighbours like this years ago. They sent the council round (environmental health) about the noise. The council people just laughed when they saw the situation and told me there was nothing to worry about. They insinuated that the neighbour had caused issues in their previous house.

I'd had the TV on at normal level and the radio (again at normal level) and it was a very small old radio that even at top volume would cause any problems (that was the thing the council laughed at as it was crazy that that would cause a noise problem.) They'd made their complaint 3 hours after they'd moved in (and i didn't even know someone had moved in as the house had been empty for several months). Some people are just weird.

purpleme12 · 17/02/2023 17:06

They've already had a noise recording device put in from council months ago (not about the trampoline although I'm sure they recorded her playing outside on it). That came back normal household noise.

Came back home to another malicious report in the post about something else today....

Do not he intimated by them
Do not move the trampoline
Ignore the letter.

What If the op canr move it?

I have a large garden but due to the structure we have only 2 place the trampoline could go. Which is next to the fence, and it also happens to be the only shady place ( because of the tree) in the summer, south-facing garden

FavouriteSlippers · 18/02/2023 08:59

be

FavouriteSlippers · 18/02/2023 09:02

Can you call the police they clearly are harrassing you.
Although im the type to rip the letters up and post them back.

LittleBearPad · 18/02/2023 09:11

Could the CAB help with legal advice?

They sound like malicious bullies, I’m sorry.

Hadtochangeforthisone · 18/02/2023 09:21

You need to involve the police each and every time. This builds the body of evidence required for the CPS to authorise charges of harassment. Without it their hands are tied.

Please please report every single incident no matter how small. (I'm a civilian investigator on a police team) . This is what I ask to victims in the same circumstances.

custardbear · 18/02/2023 09:34

I'd move the trampoline and put trellis up along the boundary - I hope the police were involved when they filmed your child in your garden, that's dreadful

I have. Unfortunately the police person make a mistake and messed up my best piece of evidence. Since then, we've never had evidence quite that good as then

Yes.
But it is 'legal'.
I know no one quite believes that unless they've been in this exact situation

Did you make a complaint about the evidence loss? Report each incident and threat on 101 especially if directed at your dd.

LolaSmiles · 18/02/2023 09:53

They sound like nightmare neighbours and you might need to get proper advice on how to deal with the mass of issues there.

On the trampoline I can see how it would be annoying, even if their reaction is an overreaction.

If DC decide they want a trampoline I think we'd be digging it into the ground because I believe that's safer and also reduces the head bobbing over our neighbours' fences.

Yes I did.
However because of the way the law works we cannot go back and undo what the police did (I know I haven't gone into it here but it makes sense if you know what happened, although obviously it's not fair)

I'm sorry you're getting so many shit replies OP. You posted in Legal Matters and once upon a time this used to be a place to get sound advice but since they changed the way posts show up on "active" you just get bored people from AIBU looking to pick a fight with hapless posters who just want to know where they stand legally.
I hope you get what you need from the good advice you've had from a couple of knowledgable legally-trained posters and just ignore the ones who are trying to make this into a dramatic bunfight.

I hate the way every board has become an extension of AIBU, was wondering how that had happened. Once upon a time lots of the boards were safe spaces.

Sorry, didn't mean to derail, OP.
I'd just move the trampoline, it's not worth the hassle, even if your neighbours do just move on to yet another complaint. At least it means you come off as reasonable if others are involved in the situation.

ReadersD1gest · 18/02/2023 11:26

Safe spaces??

LolaSmiles · 18/02/2023 11:49

Safe spaces??

You could post in the relevant topic and get sympathy, advice or a listening ear without worrying about it turning into AIBU.

Many years ago I was grateful for some emotional support through infertility, but I still remember one encounter where someone clearly didn't pay attention to the board the thread was in and was really nasty, probably seeing it in active and getting trigger happy.

Oh, fair enough.

Hadtochangeforthisone · 18/02/2023 14:12

It really iratates me as well. Nowhere more so than in 'legal'.
People post specifically in legal to get the invaluable advice offered by some exceedingly kind and often patient lawyers , people who have advice from a LEGAL perspective having encountered a similar issue or from those involved in legal procedures/protocols etc.

However, it invariably gets trampled on by all and sundry offering a moral opinion. Often with absolutely no relevance to the actual law in question.

If the OP wanted an opinion then I am sure she is smart enough to have posted in chat, wwyd, 30days only or AIBU . There are plenty of options. Yet she chose legal because she wanted the legal position on nuisance and invasion of privacy. For which she has a handful of relevant replies and a basketful of irrelevant guff. Of course moving the bloody trampoline is an option.... but THAT WASN'T THE QUESTION !!

Wouldn't it be great if Legal was never in Active. That way, those of us with interest in and experience in the law would hopefully make a specific search for it and people with non legal opinions wouldn't bother. ?
