Trampoline in garden.

Neighbours have been harassing is since we moved in, many different things (has been police involvement) but now trying to claim trampoline makes them uncomfortable as my child can see their garden/dining room (sincerely doubt she's looking at the dining room in the second she's bounced up). Threatening to sue us 'private nuisance and breach of privacy' if it's not respositioned.
I don't know what my rights are here?!
As far as I'm aware people are allowed trampolines in gardens?!
I'm also not sure if this letter is an empty threat or if they would do this?!
Can anyone please help

I'm with you OP. They sound like nobs.

YukoandHiro · 15/02/2023 15:54

I was going to say send them a link to the Tate Gallery story and say "good luck, see you in court"

If you're filming the children and you've already had the police out to report that tell them you'll press charges for making and distributing non consensual images of a minor if they do it again. That should shut them up.

If they hate children so much why don't they move?!

More constructively than my last post, this:

Not overlooking in general. The supreme court found that it was a legal nuisance in this case because it was such an unnatural use of the Tate’s land and went on to say that a case with similar circumstances would be very rare.

I presume they don't even say what their basis in law is, OP? I can't think of even the thinest pretext.

It just says private nuisance and breach of privacy

A very good question.

I think they see themselves as king of the neighborhood they've been living here so long and think everyone should bow down to them

I thought it couldn't go above 6ft?

Level out the ground?

How high is your fencing? Is your chokd looking in when bouncing?

Theunamedcat · 15/02/2023 16:02

You can actually get a tent like contraption which fits around the trampoline giving them the privacy they desire without moving anything

BaconMassive · 15/02/2023 16:03

I wouldn't bother myself but you could screen the section of the trampoline that faces them. Peg a towel or something to it.

purpleme12 · 15/02/2023 15:01

Perhaps I shouldn't have posted. Or spelt out exactly how many things these people have done and what do people understand who these people are. But if I did that it would be a very long post. And I didn't really want to go into it all again.

You’re making it sound like you’ve put the trampoline there for the sole purpose of annoying your neighbours.
My neighbour’s dog barks constantly, but that doesn’t mean I’d start doing something purposely to annoy them. I can hear the noise from the next door but 2s trampoline and that’s bad enough! Did they film your child whilst she was on the trampoline? In that case, they’re collecting evidence surely?

That's honestly fine if you think that. I'm honestly not bothered if you get that from this. I won't be getting into arguments.
They have filmed her in the garden in general, to answer your question

Our previous neighbour had a trampoline right by our living room (conveniently away from theirs), and the sound of the constant bounce bounce noise of it in addition to the screaming and shouting when there were more than 1 was horrendous. I once recorded the decibels abd that was at a dangerous level in my garden.

It was so stressful to hear, we had to move to the other side of the house and we just couldn't enjoy our garden.

I'm sorry OP but it is a very stressful constant sound and I feel sorry for 6iur neighbours. Be considerate and move it a bit further Make sure it's not being used for more than 1/2h at a time a few times a day at reasonable hours.

We had exactly this too and it is very annoying. And as someone else has said, children are nosey and they do gawp into your garden/house!

Eastereggsboxedupready · 15/02/2023 16:17

Maybe a letter about your rights to enjoy your property?
File their letter away. And go bounce away op...
They must be sat watching your dc to notice your dc watching them...

NewtyJESUS · 15/02/2023 16:21

Get on the trampoline with a bag of popcorn and bounce away while staring into their house and eating popcorn is what I'd do :D

Gymmum82 · 15/02/2023 16:26

FenghuangHoyan · 15/02/2023 14:51

Hi, that's not actually true.

If the trampoline is in a position such that those who are bouncing in it can see over into a neighbour's garden then it is an invasion of privacy.

It might be. But the reality of anyone actually enforcing that is minimal

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 15/02/2023 16:30

As a practical solution - if you’re going to be there long term and your child is young enough to want to use the trampoline long term could you look at sinking it into the ground?

Cocobutt · 15/02/2023 16:50

Move the trampoline as far over as you can, it’s fine to go on grass.

Then tell them you have moved the trampoline but that’s all you’ll be doing and if they still have a problem with it then they can take it further.

purpleme12 · 15/02/2023 16:56

Thing is, I'm now unsure about whether to report the latest incident to the police in case of retaliation.
What else can they do to me?!

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 15/02/2023 16:57

But that's a different issue

NCTDN · 15/02/2023 17:00

I don't know about 6foot but surely they would want it higher as well?

Who knows how they think.

It was something stupid like 3 foot before. It was me who put the 6 foot fence up in my garden

Noonesperfect · 15/02/2023 17:06

My main concern reading this is your child. If these neighbours of your are so awful, hate children and covertly film your child, then I would be moving the trampoline for my child's sake, not the neighbours. If police have been involved before and your neighbours are being very confrontational about your child, the last thing I'd want is my child being that near them. I'd move the trampoline as far from that neighbour as possible for the child's safety!

RB68 · 15/02/2023 17:09

Can you screen the safety net on their side with some fabric or an old sheet to prevent child from seeing over fence? But yes moving it would be the best solution - grass is fine for trampolines, if it effects grass a bit of grass seed sorts that out or moving it around regularly.

LIZS · 15/02/2023 17:10

Does it have a surround, could you screen it so she cannot see/be seen?

SheilaFentiman · 15/02/2023 17:11

Oh god, this!

good luck, OP!
