An inheritance one!

NC for this. Can get no response from solicitor and no one I've asked knows, so over to Mumsnet.

Briefly: I am a beneficiary. A and B had mirror wills, leaving everything to other spouse, or x% to beneficiaries.
A dies, we get nothing, unsurprisingly, as they died first so everything goes to B. 3 years later B dies.

We have received an interim payment of our x% from Bs will. However, along with this payment we have ALSO received an interim payment from As will. We are confused.

Why would we now get money from As will 5 years after they died? I assumed that their will was done and dusted, but this was an interim payment which indicates they may be more?

Does anyone know in what circumstances this might happen? We are at a loss to understand.

Sounds like A may have left their estate on life interest trusts for B (B can use income, trustees can pay out capital to B if necessary), then after B's death the capital that's left passes down to the remainder beneficiaries (you and others). Do you have a copy of A's Will? You can order online for a few pounds if not.

Ah, thank you. That makes a bit more sense! I did get a copy of the will but I don't think I understood what that meant. I will go and have another read.
