How much does a notary charge?

We need to get a 1-page letter notarised - i.e. to get proof that the person signing it (DH) is who he says he is.

How much would you expect to pay for this service? (Not in a big city if that's relevant)

Post Office charges £12.95 for signing and certifying 2 documents.

DH had it done today. TBF it was a bit more complicated than I had envisaged - the notary had to use a special machine to emboss the seal of office on the paper. The appointment took about half an hour in all, and they spent some time in advance checking ID etc.

As a PP said cerification and notarisation are not the same thing.

Still, easy money if you are qualified ...
