Does anyone know this? if you are named as an Executor with a firm of Solicitors (who drew up the Will) jointly, can you act on your own without the Solicitors? Or do they have to be involved?

You would need to ask them to resign as Executors.

as above, they can resign but while they are appointed no you can’t just administer the estate without reference to them.
