Sick abroad

Hi, I’m abroad and sick, unable to travel back. My UK based company is refusing to accept my hospital sick note (issued in the country I am).

Is this legal?

Do you mean your insurance company?

Which country?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/01/2023 10:23

Or do you mean you are sick and unable to travel home to go to work?

RoseslnTheHospital · 06/01/2023 10:24

Do you mean the company you're employed by isn't accepting the non-UK hospital sick note?

Gazelda · 06/01/2023 10:26

Are they suggesting what they require instead of the hospital sick note?

Pregas · 06/01/2023 10:32

Yes

Could you get in contact with your UK GP, send them the non-UK hospital sick note and ask them if they can write a UK one based on the foreign one?

It is up to your employer to decide whether to accept a sick note. However, it may be unreasonable of them to refuse it and commence disciplinary action against you.

If the sick note is not in English, it may be worth asking your employer if they would accept an English translation.
