Hi

I am watching the live proceedings of a friend on a court , I don't understand some of the things I am seeing .
It said the trail was ineffective ,then the case was adjourned , now the prosecuting is opening .

I don't understand any of it does any one here .

Which country is this? How are you watching a live trial or are you looking at a report?

Fattoushi · 14/11/2022 14:45

The prosecution will not be doing an opening (speech?) if they trial has been adjourned. Did they give a new date for the trial?

GetOffTheRoof · 14/11/2022 14:49

Can you post a link?

HappyHamsters · 14/11/2022 14:49

Me neither if I m honest ,
So the court case is on law pages
I wanted to see how they were getting on them realised I know nothing .

It did the usual jury sworn in etc then prosecuting opens
They then said it was trail ineffective so I thought that meant they would return him to remand or release him till a trail dates been set up .
But then they started opening again!! I

Confused

Sorry if I am making no sense

Were they referring to a previously collapsed trial?

Ahh so is that what ineffective means ! I thought it meant something totally different

OP posts:
cupofdecaf · 14/11/2022 14:57

Court clerk has possibly recorded it incorrectly. Or they thought they didn't have time and then rearranged things so they did (possibly couldn't get a new date within the custody time limit).
They could have given him some time with his barrister thinking he might change his plea and then he didn't.
I suspect it was recorded incorrectly.

You have literally linked here to a full explanation of what the terms mean...if you click on trial ineffective, it tells what it is.

cupofdecaf · 14/11/2022 14:57

Ineffective usually means didn't go ahead in those circumstances.

Idiotathome79 · 14/11/2022 14:58

Ok guys thank you

OP posts:
GetOffTheRoof · 14/11/2022 14:59

It looks like it tells you live timings from court. For example see attached screenshot from a live trial in Plymouth today.

In your case, I suspect they've clicked the wrong link to show ineffective trial when it should just have been an adjournment (ie lunch).

Can someone explain

I read that as they simply adjourned (paused) for lunch...
