I had a big shock today when I got my payslip and they'd deducted over a third of my wages for "Court" (that's all it said). I do owe some council tax so it's the only thing I think it could be. But I never had any paperwork to say they were applying for this, I didn't get a form to fill in re my means, it just happened. What do I do?

It sounds like they have obtained a default county court judgment against you. You will need to track it down and apply to have it set aside (or pay it). Your employer must have received paperwork - maybe start there to figure out what has happened.
