Can my IP address from mobile data or WiFi be traced back to me

Sent an email from a fake email (made up a new one)

Is this possible? Internet says different things

Does anyone know?

Teenage son sending nudes again? Unfortunate.

Can the average person receiving it trace it? No. Could the police trace it if you’ve sent something which breaks the law? Yes.

What about if they knew someone who was good with computers? It wasn't against the law stuff

No. Your phone does not have a fixed IP address. It doesn't matter how good someone is with computers. They will not be able to trace your IP address to your phone. To do so, they would need access to your network provider's logs if you were using mobile data, the wifi router logs (and probably the ISP's logs as well) if you were using wifi.

Just to add, if you were on wifi, it is almost impossible to trace it back to your device even with the logs. Anything contacted by your phone would see the router's IP address, not yours. Most routers don't keep sufficiently detailed logs to determine which of the devices using the router actually sent or received a message.

Thank you 😊
