We know someone moving from south africa who has had a serious conviction. They are returning to the UK does their conviction from South Africa stand in the UK and would you have to declare it on job applications etc.

I think it would depend on whether the conviction is spent and whether they’re applying for the type of jobs that will require DBS checks.

They were convicted / found guilty but because of the plea bargain they did not serve a sentence and probably yes as it was sadly a child abuse case . The person was not the abuser but had knowledge and failed to protect.

Their conviction will show up on checks of their criminal record. Whether it has to be declared and comes up in disclosure checks depends on whether it is spent or not. It doesn't sound like a minor matter (eg a road traffic conviction) so if they're asked and its not spent they probably do need to declare it.
