Problems with Gumtree advert

Has anyone here ever managed to resolve an issue? We bought something that was misadvertised - for a considerable amount of money - and now the seller is not responding.µ

My DP went to collect it and was unaware that it's not what they said it was.
Gumtree are just saying “try the seller again” and then go to the police

Make sure the advert is saved.

Does your DH actually have their address or other real details? Or was it though gumtree and collected in a park?

If they don’t respond you could file in small claims court, but you need their details etc for that.

Yes - if all else fails he will be going round - but it's some way away, but we wanted to see what other options there were.

If you have the seller's name and address, you have everything you need to take action against them. If the item did not match the description, send them a letter before action setting out the facts, asking for your money back and giving them a reasonable deadline to respond. State that if they fail to respond by the deadline, you may take legal action without further notice. Assuming they don't respond, you can then make a claim against them using the small claims process. There will be a cost involved in making that claim, but you can claim that back from them.
