Morning,

Just a quick question, I drove down a safer school street on 1st September and as I approached the end I saw kids in uniform. I was quite shocked as my children don't return till Monday. Same Borough school and one out of Borough. Obviously the sign just says term time only but when I looked on the website it says term time starts 1st Sept. Gutted to say the least as I has a genuine belief it was still the holidays. Should I have known this, would I have a leg to stand on if I appealed? I understand the reason for the scheme but as the sign doesn't specify a date I think its confusing . TIA

There is always the right to appeal, and those that have signs based on ‘Term time only’ have the arguable element of how clear that is.

As a parent you should have a better idea of term times than non parents, but they do vary and of course some age groups may start on different dates within the same schools.

It won’t hurt to appeal, and whether or not you mention your children is up to you as to whether you feel it would aid your appeal that the other boroughs term had not started etc

Have you received a penalty notice or are you just worrying that you might get one?
