Employer name change on wages

I've been employed at a company for over 10 years. Originally the company name appeared at the top of my payslip but over the last few years the name on the payslip changes every 2 years. (Company still advertised as original name)
When the name changes on the wage slip my P60 at the end of the year states I have worked for 2 different employers in that tax year.
What would happen if I was made redundant, would I receive redundancy money covering the whole time I've worked there or just the time I've been employed by the newest company? We're never told anything's changed, contract was signed when I originally started.
(Same person owns company just changes name a lot)

Has the employers number changed?

The company can trade as any name it likes provided it is not using an other organisations name. It is expensive to open and close companies. And would require a new bank account each time. If you are paid directly from your employers bank account you could investigate the origin of the bank transfers.

If the employers number has changed the owner has engaged in a transfer of undertakings, the employees should all have received a letter confirming continued employment and continued terms and conditions.
However the legislation covers most rights including lenght of service for redundancy calculations. The only problem is that your employer may try to dismiss your claim, which is why the letter helps as it is written proof.

Thanks for the link.

The employer PAYE number changes.
We are paid through an outsourced accountancy company that comes up on my bank account.
All wage slips are through this company, we get them through a digital portal. I've just realised everything from before April 2021 has gone, I can't access it anymore.
The company that was on my payslips is on HMRC site as Active proposal to strike off, no accounts registered since April 21

I would be seriously concerned about an employer behaving like this. From what you say, it sounds like they are running a company for a couple of years then shutting it down and transferring the business to a new company without informing you properly. I can't think of any good reason for behaving this way. The failure to inform you is a breach of TUPE regulations. However, under TUPE, you retain your length of service so, if you are made redundant, your redundancy pay should be based on the full 10 years.

This is a typical behaviour of a company defaulting on loans and going bankrupt, then setting up again under the same trading name. Time for some digging.

Furryscoob · 03/09/2022 10:20

Thanks everyone. I'm not doing anymore digging, there's a lot more crap stuff going on apart from the dodgy financial running of the company. I think it's time to leave!

Definitely dodgy - definitely time to leave!

If you go on the London Gazette website you might be able to find a liquidation for the previous company. It's really common for directors to agree to buy their own company out of liquidation to get out of paying debts.
