Named on policy post divorce

Any divorce / pension lawyers out there?
I've recently been contacted by a well known insurance agency. They've been trying to trace me under my previous marriage name. Apparently, my 1st ex husband, who recently passed away, named me on an insurance policy before he retired (we were together when he retired). I've completed the forms and am currently waiting to hear back from them.

We were married for 21 years and divorced 8 years ago. I don't believe he remarried. I did although have since divorced for a second time.
Problem is, even if there is something there would I be entitled to it having signed a financial settlement order when we divorced 8 years ago?

If he took out a life insurance policy and named you as the beneficiary, you are entitled to the money. The same is true if this is from a pension that pays out on death. He could have changed the beneficiary. He didn't. It is therefore your money. The fact there was a financial settlement is irrelevant. The situation is the same as if, after the financial settlement, he had chosen to give you some money.
