..relatives are not considered acceptable, as an ex wife do I still meet the 'relative' criteria. I can't find anything relating to this in government website. Thank you

Has he not had a passport before?
My first instinct would be to say no. Do you have different surnames?

My instinct would be if there is anyone else available, that would be a better choice, but that technically you are no longer related, so it meets the criteria.

No we don't have the same surname, we divorced a decade ago. He has never got round to getting a British passport though has permission to be here. It sounds expensive, the application process, and I don't want to be a referee if it holds things up for him or incurs more fees. My gut says no, there's a 'personal relationship' but, conversely, there isn't as we are divorced. No clear guidance for ex spouses..

If you have different surnames and have been separated for so long then I'd probably try it. If they don't accept you then they'll just ask for details of someone else

Obviously put friend on the application rather than ex-wife
