LATE car registration

I need some advice desperately. I have done something stupid and didn't send the car registration certificate off after buying a car years ago because the previous keeper hadn't signed their section and wouldn't answer their phone after. I basically got myself stuck in a rut not wanting to send it off because of being scared of what will happen. The car is taxed (using new keepers slip) and insured. What do I do? I've completely misunderstood the process of buying a car and the legalities...so embarrassed and anxious now :(

I would imagine just send it off now, get it sorted and just be glad you haven’t had any accidents/speeding tickets etc with the car while it wasn’t technically classed as yours.

You get a period of time to do it. it’s the old keepers responsibility not yours, you should have just had the green slip and they send it off or do it online.

how long are we talking?

I'm talking like 3 years. I hate to admit that but I buried my head in the sand. I was confused as I'd read online that the previous owner was meant to have updated the change in ownership but because i didn't have a clue about the paperwork that should have come I didn't chase it up.

ok you’ve three options.
try and do it online (I can’t remember if it’s a. 24hr service or you might have to try in the morning)
if that doesn’t work, just send it off now.

or complete a v62 form and either send it off or take it to a vehicle post office.

your not going to get in trouble.

I've seen this v62 form and wasn't sure if that was correct. Thankyou @EvilPea I've been not able to sleep all week thinking how I can fix this and it's too embarrassing to admit. I feel slightly better knowing that it was the previous owners responsibility to send and I'm so annoyed that they blanked our calls and text messages regarding it.

Twats.
whilst your easily traceable as your insuring it and taxing it, ultimately it’s their responsibility and you could have racked up all sorts of tax, insurance, parking, congestion charges and they would have to unpick it.

don’t be embarrassed just get it sorted.

and get some sleep! It’s not the catastrophe your worried about. It happens a lot

It’s been technically classed as the OP’s since she bought it. The registration has nothing to do with ownership!
