Restrictive covenants

Hi all

Just seen another post that has got me thinking. We are in a house that was built in 1920s and it has a garage. The deeds say it must remain a garage on the RCs.

We are looking to have it turned into a soon as others down the road have, and the builders have said it would come under permitted development. We have parking on a drive, so no more burden on the road (which is usually quite empty at certain times).

Who would have put on the RCs to say it is to remain a garage and can we do the conversion?

Your neighbours probably have the same covenants, and will be the ones who in all likelihood can enforce them. If other properties have had garage conversions they are effectively unenforcable by now.
