How to add name to house

Hoping some knows more about houses and mortgages than I do! My husband bought a house last year. I am not on the mortgage due to my awful credit rating; it’s getting better, we’d have never been accepted for a joint application. I’ve also realised that I’m on none of the deeds, nothings. I know there’s something I can do at the land registry to have some security but can’t remember what! Can anyone refresh my memory?

We are very happy and I’m not concerned divorce is on the cards but want to make sure I’m protected. Ps husband didn’t even realise, just followed mortgage advisor and is happy for me to be added to whatever we can without it effecting the mortgage.

You can only add your name if the mortgage lender agrees. It is unlikely they will agree unless the mortgage also becomes joint names.

In divorce. the house will go into the pot to be divided between you regardless of how it is owned.

You can use a Home Rights Notice to make sure your husband doesn't sell the property or apply for a larger mortgage without you being told. This doesn't cost anything. All you have to do is complete form HR1 and send it to the Land Registry.
