Declaring speed awareness when renewing insurance

So…. I was told by several people that I don’t need to declare being caught speeding and subsequently attending a speed awareness course, as I wasn’t actually convicted of anything and received no points on my license.

obviously if I have to declare it then I will but I don’t want to if I don’t actually have to as I’m wary of it increasing the premium.

does anyone know whether I’m legally obligated to declare it? Google really isn’t providing clear info. Thanks.

I was told that it can decrease your premium, as you are deemed to have had more training and should be a safer driver! I'm pretty sure I declared it. Not sure if you have to though.

Ah, that’s interesting, I’d not thought from that perspective.

on a different note, I’ve also has dash cams installed and was hoping that may help with the premiums.

A speed awareness course is not classed as a conviction so does not need to be declared when applying for insurance.

You have to declare it if you're asked to declare it, but otherwise no.

Some insurers are asking about them but not others

I was told at the speed awareness course that there is no obligation to declare it and the insurers can't check.

That was a couple of years ago though.

No need to declare as it's not a conviction.

I was told at the course I didn’t need to declare it and as far as the Police were concerned the matter was dealt with.

The instructor on the course will tell you where you stand with it.
