Wrong name on DH will.

Mirror wills made in 2019.
Checking them today to ensure they're still OK, and realised that DH's name is correct all the way through his will, except for the last bit where it says signed by testator in presence of 2 witnesses.
Can we get this changed?
Will it cost a fortune?
First and middle names are correct but surname bears no resemblance to his actual name.

A will doesn't have to be drawn up by a solicitor, anyone can write one. Getting it done by a solicitor is advised so the wording is correct.

You could copy out the will as written, correct the name and then your DH could sign the new one in front of new witnesses with the current date. Job done.

Agree with @SewingBees

caringcarer · 27/02/2022 00:24

Not sure it would be legal if his surname is not his name.

Rainbowqueeen · 27/02/2022 00:27

@SewingBees is correct. Just make sure the witnesses are not beneficiaries or family. Ask your neighbours or his work colleagues

Contact the solicitor's firm that drew up the will for you, they should be able to sort it for you and if it is their error then you shouldn't be charged.

if you made those wills with a solicitor then go back asap and say "you made a mistake" and they should rectify it without charge. If they won't then report to the law society.

Don't do a will yourselves before getting the professionals who fucked up fix it

Thank you all.
Wills were done by Solicitors - they're not home made jobs as it's a bit complicated.
Will contact them tomorrow and get it sorted.
