My MIL paid a deposit for new windows and door last June. She’s had excuse after excuse and now the guy has taken down his web page, disconnected his phone and won’t reply to any sort of communication.

She did her due diligence-he was well respected, had plenty of good reviews and had been operating for almost 20 years. Was both Fensa and Certass approved.

We are at a loss! Where does she go from here? The deposit was quite substantial. TIA

Did she pay the deposit to him personally or his company?

If it was to him personally, she should send a letter before action. If that fails to produce any movement, she can then take it to court.

If it was his company, it may have gone into liquidation or receivership, in which case she needs to find out who is administering the company and contact them. However, in that situation it is unlikely she will get all of her money back, and she may not get any.
