Money paid to solicitor not passed on

Hi,
Just after some advice or ideas about how to proceed with this. We have applied for planning permission and have had what appears to be a useless solicitor who has caused all sorts of problems and delays. I know not all solicitors are like this and I think we have been very unlucky.
However in the late summer we had to pay our council £3,500 for a parking permit issue (don’t ask!). This money was paid to the solicitor - works for quite a large firm in London - we have an email receipt, evidence of the money being paid from our bank account etc. We had a message from the council a couple of weeks ago, asking for payment and it appears that the money hasn’t been paid. My husband has been chasing this but no one is responding. The original solicitor has left the firm.
Can anyone give me an idea of what should happen, what process we follow and how we complain as we haven’t been served well. My DH is very methodical and has a paper trail of everything but it feels like we are hitting our heads against a brick wall.

You're going to need to engage another solicitor unfortunately.

Tell the firm that you require a full statement of all monies they hold or held on account for you. They are required to provide this, and if they don’t give it within a reasonable time you could go to the Law Society.
