CCTV in village hall.

A village hall has CCTV on record continuously. I attend an exercise class there with elderly people and they discuss their health problems with the instructor.

I have been told that these cameras pick up what people are saying clearly and it is recorded. I didn't know about this until recently and although I was told there are signs up i never noticed these.

I feel violated and I don't think that the others know about this. Is this a breach of privacy?

There should be very clear signage.

Also who told you that sound is picked up?
Talk to the person running the class and see if they are aware

@nimbuscloud
Someone who works for the hall told me and apparently the instructor knows about this. I have sent the instructor an email stating that I have been told and I feel uncomfortable.

The instructor could complain to the village hall but it is unlikely they will be able to force the hall to change. There should, as nimbuscloud says, be clear signs which state why there are CCTV cameras in operation and who to contact. The fact you haven't noticed the signs is irrelevant - people often don't notice signs. Provided they have adequate signage, they are under no further obligation to inform you. If they are genuinely recording conversations, they would need good justification for that as it is clearly very intrusive.

Unless you're shouting to each other, I'd be surprised if the CCTV could pick up what you're saying.

Start by getting a copy of the local councils GDPR policy.

Complain vocally in the hall and hold up a sign in front of CCTV?
