Confirmation in Scotland - how long?

Hi does anyone have an idea how long this process is taking at present? MIL recently passed away and DH is executor, he's not engaging a solicitor for the process as his family wants to save money. I've been through dealing with an estate when DF passed away 2 years ago, so he's asking me loads of questions about what he should be doing.

However I don't have a clue how long confirmation is taking from submission of application to the court as I went through this process in pre covid times. It took us about 8 weeks so I would imagine it would be longer these days?

Thanks if you can help!

It depends entirely on the court. I haven’t done confirmation applications for quite a few years but it never took 8 weeks. I’d be chasing the clerk after 2.

Thanks Fleur405. I used a solicitor to deal with confirmation on my dad's estate as it was too much for me to deal with and they had said there was a backlog at the courts.

Definitely a backlog at the moment

My FIL died in early August and we have heard nothing yet from the solicitor handling the estate. It wasn't at all complicated so I can only assume there is a backlog.

Thanks for your responses. I had to contact my solicitor a couple of days ago about a unrelated matter and asked them their opinion on how long it's taking, they said about three months so sounds about right ApolloandDaphne.
