Surname change/primary school application?

My dd's surname has been changed (court order) but I am trying to do her primary school application, and the application process asks for her name as is on the birth certificate, which is obviously her old surname!

Any advice? Do I use her legal 'new' surname, or as it is on the birth certificate?

Thanks for any help!

It might be worth ringing the school as my sons application has his Legal name then it asked what he would like to be called for first and second name

I'd ring the admissions dept at the council.
I suspect you need to use her legal name - which for many kids will be the birth certificate name, but not in your case.

We've just had this same issue. They 100% need the name as per the birth certificate. Then when you get the place you show the birth certificate and name change doc and from then on they use the child's current name.

They need the birth certificate as that is the proof of the child's birth. The name change doc doesn't suffice.

It's not an unusual thing and they know what they are doing and why they are asking for the birth certificate. I wouldn't bother phoning to check personally.

Oh gosh, really? Pains me to even write it down, and she doesn't legally exist as her old name anymore...

Ugh. Even now after nearly four years free, my bastard ex is still causing me hassle and stress Sad

They are used to these situations. It's just to make sure it's not a fraudulent application. It will soon all be in the new name. I'd try not to focus too much on it. I know it's annoying/upsetting but there's a good reason for it.
