Insurers and lightning strikes

We had a piece of equiment damaged by a lightning strike last night. The service engineer from the company has examined the unit this morning and done a technical report confirming this is what happened.

However I am concerned because lightning maps don't show any strikes within a few kilometres of our area. I don't know why but that's wrong.

We want to make a claim on our insurance for this piece of equipment but I don't know how insurers handle this kind of claim. Are they likely to try and tell us it couldn't have happened? Do they check lightning maps? Is there someone here who works in insurance who could help me with this question?
