I would imagine, without the person responsible being identified there is no one to sue.

How long since she contacted the MIB and has she followed up? Without tracing the vehicle I don't think there are any other options for compensation.

House insurance with legal cover ? Speak to them. Without drivers details though the MIB might be the only option

That would be terrible, wouldn’t it. Which is why we have the Motor Insurers’ Bureau to deal with claims like these. So now you’ve learned something.

This sounds big enough that you do need professional help in getting a good settlement. Legal expenses cover on your household insurance is a decent place to look.

Legal expenses on house insurance is the route I went. They placed me with a large firm that specialised in personal accident claims and I got an excellent settlement. You have an initial screening call with someone from the insurance company and they decide whether your situation fits their criteria for being referred on.

The MIB are in a real pickle at the moment and are being very, very, very slow. It's abysmal, frankly, but we're stuck with them! It would explain the lack of response, however.

It's definitely worth finding a PI solicitor (of which we are many!). You can either Google or search here by practice type. Or, if you have legal expenses insurance then speak with them for referral onwards to their panel sols.

You can also use the APIL website to find a local specialist solicitor:

www.apil.org.uk/

This is the route we have gone done for a similar type of accident. We had a couple of phone calls with the solicitor, we were asked to provide a detailed account of what happened and then we had a 45 minute meeting explaining how a claim would be submitted, timescales, possible outcomes etc.

Have you checked any local businesses or homes in case there is CCTV footage available?
