Property damaged when gas was being installed

The gas-fitters drove the gas pipe through our sewer pipe when installing the gas. It's been fractured and is pretty much on the verge of collapsing if not fixed ASAP.

We realised this when our drain kept backing up and we had to get someone out to clear it. The drain-cleaner snaked the drain and showed us the damage. I took a photo and sent it to the people who installed the gas.

They don't seem that bothered to be honest. I'm constantly having to chase them for responses. They've asked me to get someone out to mark where the damage is to allow them to dig, I've told them I don't know anyone who carries out this type of service (the drain-cleaning guy can't do it).

They've pretty much told me they can't come out and fix the drain unless I get it marked up. I'm very close to threatening them with legal action.

Can anyone help?

They caused the damage. It is up to them to fix it. Get a quote from someone else for fixing the problem then send the original fitters a letter before action, demanding that they either fix the problem or pay the costs of fixing it. You should give them a reasonable deadline to do so and state that, if they fail to respond by the deadline, you will take legal action without further notice.

Would your house insurers both cover this and pursue them? Worth asking. That's really terrible I'm sure the insurers will at least advise you how to deal with it.
Good luck.
