Preparation for an ET

I've just had to withdraw my case at an employment tribunal. Let's just say I didn't cope well with the respondents barrister.

How much preparation should I have had with my barrister and solicitor? We had a briefing for 45 minutes the day before but we never practiced any questions so I could get used to giving a clear response. I also wasn't aware I wouldn't be able to speak to anyone about the case after the first day until I finished giving my evidence the next day.

Can anyone whose been to an ET let me know what preparation they were offered? Was my experience the standard way of working?

Practising questions is classed as coaching, which is prohibited. Your barrister and solicitor could not conduct a mock cross-examination or practise questions in any other way with you.

In some circumstances a mock cross-examination is allowed as part of witness familiarisation, but it must be conducted by someone who has no knowledge of your case using facts that have no similarity to your case.

Thank you. I felt so unprepared. It doesn't feel better knowing what is allowed or not allowed.

Can I ask what the et was for

Unfair dismissal and disability discrimination.

I know everyone on the other side will have had witness training as part of their role, and probably had to give evidence before too. And I'm sat there with a known mental health condition all on my own. I think the whole system is unfair but it's not likely to change.
