How do I find out who owns land

There is a piece of land above our rented property full of trees, and the branches keep falling down and nearly hitting us when we are in the garden. It also blocks all our light to the back of the property.

The council & landlords do not know who owns it, they've claimed Highway services which seems unlikely due to location.

How do I find out who owns it please? The council have quoted £4000 to get it in shape, but we don't have permission 🤨

Land registry don't have anything on record for our property either

You need to pay the Land Registry for an index map search - it costs about £4 and you can get the form from the gov.uk Land Registry website. It might be unregistered in which case they'll tell you there's no registered owner, but that doesn't mean it's not owned by someone.

When you say there's nothing on record for your property, do you mean the property is unregistered?
