Inherited money and divorce

I inherited quite a large sum of money, if we get divorced is my husband entitled to some of it?
Also, with a jointly owned house, how much does it matter who contributed how much to the mortgage?

Your husband may be entitled to some of your inheritance. If it is kept separate from the marital finances, the courts will try to preserve the inheritance for you. However, if the only way to meet his reasonable needs is to dip into your inheritance, that is what will happen.

Unless you have substantial assets, the relative contributions to the mortgage are unlikely to be relevant. The first priority is to meet everyone's reasonable needs.

The house will not be considered in isolation. You should consult a solicitor who will be able to advise you on the likely outcome once they are in possession of all the facts.
