Warrant for me

kerry1989 · 15/05/2021 13:11

Im panicking now. Was meant to be at a recent court case for a Driving offence. Well i ended up with Gastrointeritis so I phoned to let them know

Today I had a letter for a warrant for my arrest.

If I go to the police station will they keep me in or will they arrange another court date? As I did contact the courts and told them I would not be able to attend

They will probably produce you in court - I would phone the police station immediately. Do you have details of who you spoke to in court? Write everything down. The court won’t be unreasonable but you need to speak to the police and court ASAP

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 15/05/2021 13:19

Well I wouldn't go in at the weekend if they arrest you you could be in until Monday. Perhaps go in first thing on Monday and talk to them.

Unfortunately I dont have the details of the person I spoke to, which was really foolish of me as I should have taken them down

The phone call would be logged on my previous calls though

Get there Monday morning at 6.30

Then you will be seen at court that day

TokyoSushi · 15/05/2021 13:23

I don't know anything at all about this, but agree if it was me I would call first thing on Monday morning.

I do intend to yes

Only thing with that is the possibility of getting a knock at the door at any point today or tomorrow

Just don't answer the door. I know a lot of people will probably disagree with that, but they're not going to break into your house for you over a driving offence and one missed court date. Unlikely they will come to the house when you only received the letter today.

Squirrelonwheels · 15/05/2021 13:49

I would guess that you’re unlikely to be a priority arrest but if you’re worried then that’s why I suggested phoning the station today. Be prepared that they may not accept your illness as a reason to have missed court - I’m guessing it was a serious offence as they didn’t deal with you in your absence. Normally needing to adjourn would require medical evidence etc. I’m not trying to worry you, just help you get prepared.

I might give them a phone today at some point as sometimes the not knowing is the worst part

Hope it goes okay. I meant the court might not accept your reasons by the way - the police will just be carrying out the warrant (which will be from the court), nothing more.

NerrSnerr · 15/05/2021 13:59

Did you ask for any medical evidence when you were unwell? Something from the hospital or a paid for letter from the GP?

No I didnt, which again was foolish I know

Guess I was not thinking straight at the time as had a lot on my mind recently

I would go Monday. It's unlikely they'll come over to arrest you for that.

It is going to be a long weekend for me I think

What was the offence? Was it serious if in court? Did you have a solicitor?

It was for driving at a speed almost 100mph on a Motorway which am not proud to admit

Didnt seek a solicitor as I know I was guilty and in the wrong

If you already have points on your licence (and even if you don’t depending on the circumstances) then you may be disqualified from driving once it’s heard in court, so don’t drive to the police station if you can help it.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 15/05/2021 14:33

Is this the same one you missed because of the trains before?

I phoned my local Police Station and explained to the officer who answered and she said it will be in my best interests to report to the local police station as soon as possible.

I am scared they will keep me in for a court hearing because thats apparently what they do after some research on Google
