Question about being arrested

lesleyb2k1 · 11/05/2021 19:32

I was held in police custody on a drink driving charge as I stupidly gave a friend a lift when I shouldnt have. After attending the police station and of course I was arrested I was asked to provide a Stripsearch.

Though I didnt think this would be a normal procedure for this to happen on that charge?

Making no excuses and I know I need to face any punishment.

Perhaps they thought you had drugs or a weapon on your person?

You do usually get searched before you are put into a cell. For your safety and theirs. Usually its take off top, pull bra out away from your body (so they can see if anything falls out of your bra) etc. You'll also need to take off tights or anything you could use to strangle yourself.

Brokenpencilsarepointless · 11/05/2021 19:51

If you're hoping to use the fact that they searched you to try and complain about their conduct or to get rid of the arrest then you're out of luck.

They've acted properly. Take your punishment.

Yes that is what happened, Had to remove my Cardigan and top and loosen Bra etc. Wasnt wearing tights at the time as I had trousers on. Also was not going to make any complaint about any conduct, was just a general query really

That's not a strip search

Brokenpencilsarepointless · 11/05/2021 19:59

I assumed OP was exaggerating for sympathy.

lesleyb2k1 · 11/05/2021 19:59

That's not a strip search
Well it was, as I had to remove my trousers, boots and socks etc I was wearing at the time

Time to worry when you are asked to squat or bend over

Not looking for any sympathy, I admit I was in the wrong and was just a general query

@lesleyb2k1

Strip does imply naked and I trust you were wearing knickers so doesn’t sound like you were naked

But they were doing it for the reasons mentions.

Yes I know what strip means, and yes I was wearing Knickers

When I say stripsearched, I mean I was stripsearched

Sorry if people think this is a joke , and I am exaggerating for a bit of sympathy

You are checked down to skin level and beyond but not left standing there naked in one go. Check the top body and redress before the bottom body.

Stichintime · 11/05/2021 20:07

A strip search is when you take everything off, so not a strip search. I think they give most people a search like you describe, or a 'pat down' before putting in a cell.

cabbageking · 11/05/2021 20:07

A safety search is not a strip search

nimbuscloud · 11/05/2021 20:08

It should have been done in an area away from the view of others. Was it?

That is what I mean, sorry if people are confused.

Never mentioned about being naked at any point though I did have to remove each item of clothing one by one, first top half and then bottom half after that

That is what I am meaning

I hope it was same sex officers who carried out the search, respectfully.

I was thinking drugs too, tbh.

Mammma91 · 11/05/2021 20:10

OP, it was a stupid mistake. And a dangerous one at that. However they did act accordingly. I hope this is a lesson learned for you and your friend (who I assume knew you were drinking before you got behind the wheel). Put it behind you for now and accept what punishment your given. Thankfully neither you nor anybody in the street or roads were hurt. Smile

I was arrested and put in custody a few years ago. They made me take off my boots, socks, coat, cardigan and gave me a thorough frisk. Tbh I was a hysterical mess and already in the middle of a breakdown. I was given an 'appropriate adult' (I was in my 40s) and when my solicitor came he said if I wasn't able to pull myself together for the interview then I'd be medically detained under section. I will be forever grateful for his advice. But returning to your post OP, I've no idea why you would be stripped to your underwear or if that's normal. It sounds horrible. I've not seen that on generic tv cops type programmes which follows the crime and then arrest and it didn't happen to me. I hope you're bearing through it all.

People do make mistakes OP and I am sure you learned from yours. It must have been a horrible experience and I’m sorry.

I am fine, like I say was asked to remove first my cardigan, top and bra then was given those items back. When that was over I was asked to remove my Boots Socks and Trousers and frisked. Was never fully naked at any point like some are saying I have said, and I know they doing their job as they dont take any chances

Maybe they have to check all detainees for drugs, weapons, potential explosives and anything that could cause harm to the arrested person or anyone else.
