Selling land

Have made an informal agreement to sell part of the garden to a neighbouring house which owned the garden originally (different owners though). Can we just register with land registry without using solicitors?

Land needs to be transferred by deed which is then recorded at the land registry, otherwise the transfer is invalid.

Land transfers can be complicated as the transfer deed has to contain the information about the future relationship of the properties so it would be well worth taking advice.

Ok thanks so the deed will need to be prepped by a solicitor then?

Definitely get a solicitor to do this, otherwise you could have problems when either party wants to sell up in the future.

We did this, iirc cost a couple of hundred £s. Purchaser paid for all the legal costs for both sides (agreed as part of the deal)
