Nearly two years after flat purchase no deeds

Hello everyone.

I moved into my flat in 2019 (first time buyer). We had a lease extension organised as part of the purchase. We still haven't had any sign of the house deeds (and I guess the lease extension would show on this?)

Solicitor has advised they have been chasing this. Just wondered if this is normal? Cause for concern?

Thanks

Hi OP. Our deeds arrived a whole year after we moved in (Nov 2019), this is in a London Borough. So maybe chase it up but hopefully they'll arrive eventually!

Is your property mortgaged? If so, the deeds will be with your lender

With the vast majority of properties, the "deeds" are held online at the Land Registry. All important documents are filed with them electronically. You can download the Office Copies (deeds) for about a fiver.

There are no 'deeds' to registered land, as pp says you can download the copies of the land registry entries on their website for a minimal sum.

Thanks for all your comments, much appreciated.

Maizeblouse, that puts my mind at rest that yours took a year. I guess the lease extension has added to the time that it's taking.

I’m not sure what documents you’re waiting for tbh.

Your purchase and extension will be registered at the land registry. You (or anybody else) can download the registration documents from their website.

We own several properties but don’t have original deeds or documents for any of them, everything is just registered now.
