Help with Solicitor

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post I couldn't find a more accurate one.

I need some help in trying to get my conveyancing solicitor to actually do his job. We did have a previous solicitor but he left without notice so it got passed on to this one who is the head of the company.

He is impossible to speak to on the phone, always promises to call back but never does so i call him. On the rare occasion i have spoken to him all he says is how busy he is and got such a huge workload he basically can't cope.

There are a few enquiries that need answering for our buyers, these have been outstanding since December. Other than that we are ready to exchange and complete on both sale and purchase.

Has anyone got any tips on how i can get him to carry out the work we are paying for?

I know solicitors are absolutely inundated at the moment and appreciate his workload has gone up since the other solicitor left but we just want this done asap.

Thanks in advance

Hi OP, I'm a partner at a high steer firm and the conveyancing head. I'm sorry you're going through this, you must feel utterly impotent.

You need to call the managing partner and raise this with him. Say that you don't want to go down the formal complaint route, and I assure you they won't either! But that you need to see some movement in your matter and weekly updates.

If you don't, then raise your formal complaint within two weeks and once your matter is sorted raise it with The Legal Ombudsman.

Good luck. You are right - work at the moment is insane and if my staff upped and left, I'd probably jump off a bridge (it's that terrible at the moment). But none of this is your fault and you should press that angle.

@MinecraftMother thank you very much for replying.
He actually called me yesterday and finally we went through our file. Turns out the enquiries aren't actually that easy to sort and now there's a chance we might not complete before stamp duty holiday ends so I wasn't best pleased it's been left until now but he assured me he will act promptly now to try and sort them.

Is it true ringing every day will help because he will just want to get it sorted so i stop calling? Or should i leave him to it for now? As you can imagine i have very little faith in him at the moment!
