Birth Certificate “Place Of Birth” - how is it decided?

Hi! I had my first child in a city hospital so the Place of Birth section of the birth certificate was pretty straightforward. But we’ve since moved to a small village, and I’m wondering how that works with birth certificate information. Can you put the name of the village (if I have a home birth)? My nearest hospital is on the outskirts of a town with negative associations, but the location of the hospital isn’t properly in the town and has a smaller place name on its address... I suppose I’m wondering if I give birth in that hospital, is my child going to have the name of this nearest town on their birth certificate and therefore passport for the rest of their life ha Blush or can I request, whilst registering them, that a different place name be used?

Thanks so much for any help! Flowers

I had a home birth and on the birth cert it says 'place of birth (if different from X)', X being your home address. So mine was blank because it wasn't different. Otherwise I think they receive the notification of the birth from the hospital, so presumably they take it from there? That's just assumption though, hopefully someone else may know more.

Even if worst case child gets the rough location on birth certificate, really isn't end of the world and indicative of anything as lots of people are born out of area of where they live. It's to do with services available. Try not to get too worked up about it.

Look at hospital address. Whatever they put as their town/city is what will be on birth certificate. Usually something like Oakleigh Hospital, Portmouth (total made up hospital).

Home birth likely have your address and listed town that you live in.

Can't request a different location from where born, as certificate a record of where actually born.
