Counterfeit items on amazon

Does anyone know if there’s any comeback when you buy an expensive branded item on amazon
and instead what arrives is a generic non branded version that’s around £80 less? 😮

Its arrived from Korea I think looking at the packaging. I’ve started a complaint/return on the item but I’ve never complained about anything on amazon before so does anyone know if I’m likely to get my money back?

I’ve found Amazon are really good with returns. I normally get refunded as soon as it shows it’s been dropped off at the post office.

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/01/2021 16:11

Do they generate a returns label like eBay do you know?

I think it depends on the type of return, they should for a problem return like yours as it's not your fault.

In my experience Amazon are more likely to generate a returns label then with eBay

With eBay it’s up to the seller, so with Hong Kong & Asian sellers through eBay, wish or AliExpress etc they may just write it off rather than have the expense of a return as they pay for the return postage and for certain regions the postage sent from them may be subsidised and free

With Amazon the process is more likely to result in a label, then you get your refund as the tracking progresses

However I bought a gun style forehead thermometer via Amazon and failed to notice it was coming from Hong Kong, so ended up with a long delay and ultimately it didn’t work. The seller messed about going back and forth with messages and Amazon just sided with me and refunded

Go onto your order, choose “return or replace” and “description on website was not accurate” then follow the steps

starsinyourpies · 05/01/2021 16:45

Did you buy from Amazon or another seller on the platform? Either way they should help you. Go to orders and select return/replace and put your reason.

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/01/2021 08:16

Okay. I’ve been in contact with the seller who obviously has English as their second language although does fortunately have a UK postal address I can send it back to. They first try to fob me off and said they’d knock £30 off the price I paid. When I looked on amazon the nearest I can find to what I received was £80 cheaper, so I said no to that and asked for a return/refund. They have a agreed and wished me a happy life lol. However no postage label!

When I go to the area that says returns it tells me I’ve already requested a return and the return is ‘pending seller approval’ So I’ve assume they need to do something their end? 🤔

These are the messages I’m seeing when I click on the returns area through amazon.

Please make sure you report this to Amazon, as sellers shouldn't be selling counterfeit goods. We're Amazon sellers and people sending out cheap fake versions spoils the marketplace and is against Amazon's TOS. Problem is not everyone gets reported!

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/01/2021 08:21

Just to add I’m suspicious they may try to make me just send the item without a generated label as they’ve said they’ll return my money once they receive the goods. I won’t send the item unless I get a label as I think I might end up in a position where Ive lost possession of the item and the cash.

Don’t worry I plan to report. I just want to try and make the return happen first. Obviously if they squirm against it I’ll go to ‘file a claim’. eBay/PayPal seem much simpler when you run into this kind of trouble. Considering how huge Amazon is this seems much harder to navigate.

I'd just go onto Amazon chat and explain. Always works for me.

Bluntness100 · 07/01/2021 08:29

Amazon is basically a market place, some products are sold or delivered by Amazon, and others by the seller.

You’ve bought directly from the seller, which means it’s up to the seller to agree the return, any return will likely be at your expense.

You can email Amazon or chat to them, in my experience they tend to wait till the seller responds and give them a time limit. It’s a day or two.

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/01/2021 08:38

Okay. I’ll do that after my first home learning stint.

They have written back telling me just to return off my own back. So I guess I need to check with amazon before I do that. Seems really open to them saying ‘not received’.

Agree that amazon chat has always been very helpful when ive had queries about specific orders. Worth getting on there and asking for advice.

Bluntness100 · 07/01/2021 09:34

Op you can send it tracked, so you get confirmation that it has been received.
